Google to Locate Phoenix-Area Facility on Arizona State University's Tempe CampusFrom Google's Press Release comes the news: MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 10, 2006 – Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today announced plans to open an office on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University (ASU) as part of its continued efforts to build out a Phoenix-area operation. The new Google office will be primarily focused on engineering, operations and IT support functions and is part of its worldwide effort to build engineering centers in locations where there are great engineers. Google plans to offer full amenities at this location. Close proximity to ASU's students and faculty are not coincidental to this choice, obviously. Google tries to foster a local community environment favoring engineering and Open Source (understandably) and there should be a lot of give and take between Google and ASU and the community at large. |
